Firstly, I visited the Christmas Fair at the New College in Durham on Saturday morning and picked up a few lovely little things there from my old favourites Helen at <a href="http://www.busybeestudio.co.uk/">www.busybeestudio.co.uk</a> and Julie at <a href="http://www.theclothshed.co.uk/">www.theclothshed.co.uk</a></div><br /><div align="left"><br />Then, I got down to the studio I share in Durham with Andrew of The Croft Workshops and set to work on my new collection Magpies & Memories. More to follow on this soon! I made a new Christmas window display and got the shop area looking quite festive with some decorations and giftwares I have started to make.<br /></div></div><br /><div align="left">Later on in the evening, Hubby and I went to the Gala cinema in Durham to see Woody Allen's new film: Midnight in Paris. It was fantastic and made me want to visit the city again! Perhaps next year!<br /></div><br /><div align="left">This morning, I took the train to Newcastle to visit a new Vintage Fair which has been started up by Mandy Pattullo, a fabulous textile artist from Jesmond. (<a href="http://www.threadandthrift.blogspot.com/">http://www.threadandthrift.blogspot.com/</a>) I got some lovely old lace pieces, embroidery threads and postcards, all to be reused in some new work.</div><br /><br /><div align="left">After lunch with my hubby and daughter Amelia, we returned to Durham where I visited the private view of a new glass studio and gallery that has opened. Crushed Chilli is run by Janet Rogers and is sure to be a big hit in Durham ( <a href="http://www.crushedchilli.co.uk/">http://www.crushedchilli.co.uk/</a>). Janet's own work is on display together with paintings, textiles and jewellery. </div><br /><br /><div align="left">After all that, I think it is time for feet up with a cherry scone!</div><br /><br /><div align="left"></div><br /><br /><div align="left"></div><br /><br /><br /><br /><div align="left"></div><br /><br /><br /><br /><div align="left"><br /><br /><br /><br /></div><br /><br /><br /><br /><div align="left"></div><br /><br /><br /><br /><div align="left"><br /><br /><br /><br /></div><br /><br /><br /><br /><div align="left"></div><br /><br /><br /><br /><div align="left"><br /><br /><br /><br /></div><br /><br /><br /><br /><div align="left"></div>Suzanne Smithhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15963624338366214542noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8415791847930331384.post-81509728219232194042011-11-13T12:37:00.000-08:002011-11-13T12:54:03.214-08:00<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjWR3XXUHe-cV-RyttuMILQobVRmNXYm6Ku7hlAP3Kac6UDSrVNMLifU-ollGYDM52o7DxDIojDQB-JVzdbzS_Ee9wYjRWgGqasjls8qSGnCnp547_C9s6TmJw7C09KfTPfRxWtDcHVb1uw/s1600/Madam+Mim+2011.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 214px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5674585865795004434" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjWR3XXUHe-cV-RyttuMILQobVRmNXYm6Ku7hlAP3Kac6UDSrVNMLifU-ollGYDM52o7DxDIojDQB-JVzdbzS_Ee9wYjRWgGqasjls8qSGnCnp547_C9s6TmJw7C09KfTPfRxWtDcHVb1uw/s320/Madam+Mim+2011.jpg" /></a><br /><br /><div align="center">Madam Mim's little store in Bruges<br /></div><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgXaEbLh9G877KH-DVblH138_yDmtQKc2bslVAkVxmWyHkcUkXMmMdVq3sBRACO_5d-zm3JTBbykFErT5_-MQ5Dr636qjkOn42FwMtzq84DE2hUrrlmm4pw9rm8coz-TiC6Tv9n45eoYjRR/s1600/Bruges+2011+009.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5674583946109079138" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgXaEbLh9G877KH-DVblH138_yDmtQKc2bslVAkVxmWyHkcUkXMmMdVq3sBRACO_5d-zm3JTBbykFErT5_-MQ5Dr636qjkOn42FwMtzq84DE2hUrrlmm4pw9rm8coz-TiC6Tv9n45eoYjRR/s320/Bruges+2011+009.jpg" /></a><br /><br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgw82MQPqIq4YJPU_JYBIhiXvJUgvFy5oip4b-4Uv1bE_rEYyZ9TCau9jgEmMZPuOiX5JntyB7VP_mBu_OFnsQALSPGT0J1A1igVhv81jYarNRzCM7EyP-VbGSM4JvbwnmhtaHgRMmKQGjn/s1600/Bruges+2011+033.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5674583536617853810" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgw82MQPqIq4YJPU_JYBIhiXvJUgvFy5oip4b-4Uv1bE_rEYyZ9TCau9jgEmMZPuOiX5JntyB7VP_mBu_OFnsQALSPGT0J1A1igVhv81jYarNRzCM7EyP-VbGSM4JvbwnmhtaHgRMmKQGjn/s320/Bruges+2011+033.jpg" /></a><br /><br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgpOonrVD0gdSDl-3inJ70zLhyK7udnSUYfcehL4914RckjF2Z85Aerig51YWKPg8E8m2bo4nb-QUslIgRihdhRdkOgsWtmdEqRLNPl8TXeeJa8lXS6SfoEGDt4_ZWqsRjSQ9WgXEQoZRHt/s1600/Bruges+2011+005.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5674583264115578146" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgpOonrVD0gdSDl-3inJ70zLhyK7udnSUYfcehL4914RckjF2Z85Aerig51YWKPg8E8m2bo4nb-QUslIgRihdhRdkOgsWtmdEqRLNPl8TXeeJa8lXS6SfoEGDt4_ZWqsRjSQ9WgXEQoZRHt/s320/Bruges+2011+005.jpg" /></a><br /><br /><div>Last month, my hubby and I took a trip to the beautiful city of Bruges in Belgium. A small place really but packed full of beautiful buildings, boutiques, eateries and of course my favourites; Museums and Antique stores! Just wandering around randomly provided some amazing surprises, with picture postcard images around every corner. A selection of images are included.<br /></div></div><br /><div>Some lovely highlights were walking along the Langestrasse which was the bohemian end of town with many antique, collectables, vintage and creative stores and nearby a weekend flea market which didn't see as it was Tuesday! <a href="http://www.madammim.be/">http://www.madammim.be/</a> is a lovely shop with a mix of vintage and hand crafted homewares and accessories. Great for browsing. The fair is on every month and usually has a good mix of vintage fashion, homewares and collectables. I had a nice weekend chatting to customers and makng a few purchases of my own! I also met a fellow craft enthusiast Laura Creed of <a href="http://www.creedyscreations.blogspot.com/">http://www.creedyscreations.blogspot.com/</a><br /></div><br /><div>Laura got some nice goodies from me which she talks about on her blog. Looking forward to seeing what she makes with them! I bought a lovely 1960s framed tapestry which will look nice when cleaned up and wall mounted. My other purchase was a nice green stoneware jug which will fit in nicely with my collection.</div><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><div></div></div>Suzanne Smithhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15963624338366214542noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8415791847930331384.post-17428330311317160622007-10-07T09:30:00.001-07:002007-10-07T09:36:24.581-07:00Barcelona<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEghrUlqQCOIDbywMARi_LfTOW3DRlpkbabuMgm4tJIt79k7H6CjC6f7eIvkmQJg6ikJWY1M3BWbL-nhCkr85flI_X6NH0GrPSAFgwdfymbxPU6pKCvdMYDa7JrbK3WTdXoR116-p69pn5ui/s1600-h/Barcelona+07+084.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEghrUlqQCOIDbywMARi_LfTOW3DRlpkbabuMgm4tJIt79k7H6CjC6f7eIvkmQJg6ikJWY1M3BWbL-nhCkr85flI_X6NH0GrPSAFgwdfymbxPU6pKCvdMYDa7JrbK3WTdXoR116-p69pn5ui/s320/Barcelona+07+084.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5118634537808406210" border="0" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3C0IYHxaq15tiqxC89A_Qxwx_gQmESwNCV-urEJLVYLd4cof5Y1xI_bQXKR4DIcRHgSSH3ymbdGi2KiVhSEMZs5OSLf0pzd77uy7Owi1bFTXpxSHSYGjky4LKM51lvCEB2qsP3jt2uslI/s1600-h/Barcelona+07+057.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3C0IYHxaq15tiqxC89A_Qxwx_gQmESwNCV-urEJLVYLd4cof5Y1xI_bQXKR4DIcRHgSSH3ymbdGi2KiVhSEMZs5OSLf0pzd77uy7Owi1bFTXpxSHSYGjky4LKM51lvCEB2qsP3jt2uslI/s320/Barcelona+07+057.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5118633790484096690" border="0" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhVp8G0btQGVq2urTf3ZrqWqucEVSJ3aSI1rkFACtjD0HlnBG9fjOvKG8hN9XV3IMYieBJe8zvU1vNy-vdwqna3YUXA9oBjcHvLnNAAuJ0aBQm-7zREz9dL2IruSlHqmvW2H0ZZxJfoQ3hw/s1600-h/Barcelona+07+127.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhVp8G0btQGVq2urTf3ZrqWqucEVSJ3aSI1rkFACtjD0HlnBG9fjOvKG8hN9XV3IMYieBJe8zvU1vNy-vdwqna3YUXA9oBjcHvLnNAAuJ0aBQm-7zREz9dL2IruSlHqmvW2H0ZZxJfoQ3hw/s320/Barcelona+07+127.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5118633313742726818" border="0" /></a>I have just returned from a trip to Barcelona which was just fantastic. Di highlights a variety of work that she comes across and there are some amazing finds on this blog - really unusual and beautiful work. Di also has a website that is soon to go live called Ghost furniture where quality furniture will be revamped for a new lease of life. It is a huge wedding show, the largest show in Scotland. It is my first time at this one so I have no idea what to expect. I would like my stand to look like a sweet shop or cake shop so will take glass cake stands and perhaps put pink paper on the stand walls. I will then decorate with my felt chocolate wedding favours in pretty boxes and even have a few large cake centrepiece creations. I am looking forward to it really, but there just never seems to be enough time to do everything I would like! Oh, well better get on ........Suzanne Smithhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15963624338366214542noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8415791847930331384.post-71030862068766216722007-08-19T04:08:00.000-07:002007-08-19T04:15:07.425-07:00Busy, Busy, Busy<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhlyxZVY8RMxCAZZgZuCO4waLB6otT3HGhOq5DlH0B4ZGf9-lelaxSYt7cBOuYamt_1pkHeOrfYzpkzjqY9rZA2JPwSZT3_zQ0ppo9ueA7ezcnNK8MbD7bkRLf22QPOX7FAESZMO-bfEbtq/s1600-h/IMGP1434.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhlyxZVY8RMxCAZZgZuCO4waLB6otT3HGhOq5DlH0B4ZGf9-lelaxSYt7cBOuYamt_1pkHeOrfYzpkzjqY9rZA2JPwSZT3_zQ0ppo9ueA7ezcnNK8MbD7bkRLf22QPOX7FAESZMO-bfEbtq/s320/IMGP1434.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5100368561555082162" border="0" /></a><br />I am going to have another really busy week this week as I have to finish some work for the The Lighthouse in Glasgow - Autumn Showcase. I made a new collection of work for them that is made of oxidised silver, fet and lace. I delivered it all last week but it requires a few finishing touches to make it complete. This week, I am finishing some work for the RBSA in Birmingham which is hosting an exhibition called Victoriana. I think it will be a gorgeous exhibition of work. I am working on a newsletter to send out to people on my mailing list. This will include updates of exhibitions and events I am attending.Suzanne Smithhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15963624338366214542noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8415791847930331384.post-67091702489508161092007-08-11T03:23:00.000-07:002007-08-11T03:39:22.655-07:00New Start<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhauq-3zV5M002jSGJGUlT873FN3I2HrdT2CUwd5rmMDEiC0mtPQhRE8I8WeEACe8SdFLdo2sOk_M1gYLZzpC2L1xsW3esBox31jChpmFaxueFOoBJDBzv4YbZJDbUQRvW9AM4W0Eius6LG/s1600-h/Suzanne+Smith+Image.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhauq-3zV5M002jSGJGUlT873FN3I2HrdT2CUwd5rmMDEiC0mtPQhRE8I8WeEACe8SdFLdo2sOk_M1gYLZzpC2L1xsW3esBox31jChpmFaxueFOoBJDBzv4YbZJDbUQRvW9AM4W0Eius6LG/s320/Suzanne+Smith+Image.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5097390095646969458" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;">Hello everyone, this is my new daily blog which helps me communicate with the outside world. To introduce myself, I am a UK designer maker who works on my own to create beautiful objects and jewellery. I like to work with a variety of materials including hand <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_0">made</span> felt, vintage lace, threads, silver, leather and gemstones. I am very inspired by environments and places, colours and textures. I studied at Glasgow School of Art, Scotland. My Degree Show was based on the traditions of taking Afternoon Tea. This led me to create unusual jewellery and objects for the home such as felt cakes and vintage boxes of felt chocolates. (www.suzanne-smith.co.uk).This has now developed into weddings also and I make little cakes and chocolates for wedding favours. (www.suzannesmithdesign.co.uk) I really love making things, collecting, storing and displaying items I have found at home and abroad. My favourite places are Paris, London and New York. I always find these cities to be full of inspiration. I intend to write a little each day to update what I am doing with my work and the progress that I have made.<br /></span>Suzanne Smithhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15963624338366214542noreply@blogger.com0
